| SriLankan Airlines was invited by the Sri Lanka National Commission for UNESCO to celebrate the International Literacy Day Programme held on the 8th of September 2005. The ceremony took place at the Kebithigollewa Central College.
Sri Lankan Airlines sponsored 6,000 exercise books, 6,000 pens and 3,000 chocolates, which were distributed amongst the children. The Sri Lanka National Commission had selected 1,200 students of 25 selected primary schools in the Kebithigollewa educational zone along with 1,700 students of the Kebithigollewa Central College. This made it a total of 2,900 students who benefited from this programme.
