The 60th anniversary of UNESCO fell on the 25th of October 2005. In commemoration of this milestone, the Sri Lankan commission of the UNESCO invited SriLankan Airlines to be a part of a book distribution project. This event took place at the Pollonnaruwa educational division recently.
SriLankan Cares sponsored 2,000 exercise books, which were part of a gift pack that was handed out to a total of 208 students of 2 selected primary schools in the Polonnaruwa educational zone. These 208 students included 56 students of the Polonnaruwa Somawathi Vidyalaya and 152 students of the Patunugama Vidyalaya.
This was one of several such projects that SriLankan Cares, the charitable arm of SriLankan Airlines, has undertaken to improve the quality of life of the future of the nation.
