SriLankan Cares, the charitable arm of Sri Lankan Airlines, conducted its annual book distributions throughout the country. A total of 43,000 school books were distributed amongst 4,000 students in 23 schools in the districts of Galle, Matara and Kalutara. In addition to the underprivileged children, the programme concentrated mostly on the children who were affected by the tsunami disaster that struck the island in December 2004.
Together with the Passenger Services Agencies in the areas of Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Seeduwa, Badulla, Jaffna, Dambulla, Ratnapura, Vavuniya and Kurunegala, SriLankan Cares was able to reach the underprivileged student community, enabling them to start the new school term hand-in-hand with SriLankan Airlines.
SriLankan Airlines frequently carries out social responsibility projects around the country, as its management and staff firmly believe that it is part of the Company's duty to help and promote those who are in need.
