Upgrading of Meepagama Jayanthi Maha Vidyalaya in Kalawana Continues

SriLankan Airlines has been continuously attending to the various needs of the Meepagama Jayanthi Maha Vidyalaya in Kalawana.

During this year an office complex was constructed for the Principal of the school. Since the buildings are located in different levels of a hill, making access difficult, especially in bad weather, we have made plans to construct flights of steps wherever it is necessary. The contract for this has already been awarded to a relevant party. In addition to this, four toilets will also be built for the students.

There is also an ongoing scheme under which we have identified 12 deserving students for whom support is provided in order to ease their burden as they strive to further their education. All children are from Year 4 and above while the annual cost for each child is Rs.5,000. Throughout the year these children are provided with stationery, shoes, socks, bags, sets of uniforms and undergarments (for female students). All contributions towards this scheme are controlled by SriLankan Cares with no direct donations to the students. This ensures that the money is being used for the children’s educational purposes only.
