The “Light House Project” programme got underway at the Meepagama Jayanthi Maha Vidyalaya in Kalawana with the opening of the activity room by Deshini Abeyewardena,
Manager Public Relations of SriLankan Airlines, together with Mr. P.Thenabadu, the Deputy Director of Education of the Nivithigala Zone.
The project has been embarked on by the Ministry of Education in an effort to enhance the knowledge of English communication skills amongst students of the school. The school was one amongst two schools in the Ratnapura district which has been chosen for this unique project. SriLankan Airlines contributed to the project by donating a computer, a UPS and a colour printer to the activity room while the government contributed Rs.300,000/- in cash. The Principal’s office, which was also donated by SriLankan Airlines, was officially declared open on this day as well.
In order to show their gratitude to their guests, the children of Kalawana presented a variety of entertainment shows in English. They were well received by all those present at the function.
